Official Count Expected Tomorrow

Tomorrow, February 24th, the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) is expected to provide both the College Compensation & Appointments Council and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union with the official count on the college’s final offer.  Over the last 10 or so days, the OLRB has been reviewing all the votes cast on February 10th and adding the segregated and mail-in ballots to arrive at the official result of the vote on the college’s final offer.

Refresher of the unofficial results:

  • Turn Out = 77.28%
  • Votes Accepting Offer = 51.25%
  • Votes Rejecting Offer = 48.74%

Stay tuned tomorrow afternoon for more information…

Watch, these idiots probably fucked up the count and have to start over again. I won’t be surprised if they delay the “official” results another week again.

they need to set a solid deadline once and for all. This is getting to the point of stupidity.

Also to the % of teachers that didnt vote: Wotudents yet yo9w you are fighting for students but dont show you to vote. That shows that they dont care about anything then cause if they did care about this they would mail in or show up to vote.

I teach at 3 different colleges part-time…I am not unionized which means I did not have an opportunity to vote…One college is telling me in the event of a strike, I have to cross the picket line and continue teaching??? The others are telling me to stay home. Since us part timers sign a contract, shouldn’t we continue getting paid? Needing some answers.
keeping my fingers crossed there will be no strike!!!

PT get paid if they show up – the classes are canceled though. That’s what happened at Sheridan at least in 2006.

No unfortunatly I don’t believe you will not be paid for the time off even though there is a contract. Students have the same issue, we have a contract with the colleges that in exchange for our money (tuition) we would recieve training in the corresponding courses. In my opinion, from a legal stand point, I don’t believe they should be allowed to go on strike without refunding us x amount of dollars from our tuition. If they go on strike for a month, then we should get a months tuiton back… and so on… One of our profs advised us to file a class action lawsuit against the board and union…. He said schools would be back in business the next day. lol… any takers?

It takes 14 days for teachers to cast their ballot and to count 300 votes?

C’mon, if you guys want a raise, you should at least try to work faster than construction workers.

If 77% of the 9000 teachers came out to vote, that leaves 2000 that didn’t vote, not 300.

      • To Strike or Not to Strike... says:

Not every teacher voted though, so there were only 300 mail-in ballots. And the college doesn’t control the post office, so it’s not their fault that the official decision hasn’t been made yet.

Who says that all 2000 voted by mail ins etc. ?

For all we know the number is 20, not 300 or 2000

        Wow you guys are smart.
Its 300 mail in ballots of the ones that voted. The rest did not vote because they’re lazy.

i think the 500 votes will turn to a strike but it will be by a marge just like the strike mandate.

  17. Humber says:

They won’t not go on strike just “because of the students”, there are many students in the future that will benefit from a strike right now. That’s why they are pushing for one.

So if they ultimately reject the offer does that mean the strike begins as of then? Or will there be a new date set to begin the strike.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 5 Thumb down 5

    • admin says:

No, if the final offer is ultimately rejected today it doesn’t mean a strike would begin immediately. The Union will have to give the colleges notice, which is five days.

With this amount of teachers that DONT want it, i believe that the agreement isn’t really reached.
The margin is so close that i dont think it’s really agreed.
